Louisville Public Media

Green B.E.A.N. Delivery is excited to announce our partnership with Louisville Public Media: WFPL, Classical 90.5 and WFPK! To kick-off this wonderful partnership we teamed up with Louisville Public Media and the Dare to Care Food Bank to help fight hunger in Kentuckiana. We recently participated in the NPR Spring fund drive in which we donated 2 lbs. of fresh produce to the Dare to Care Food Bank for every donation pledged to WFPL, Classical 90.5 and WFPK.  Through your amazing help, we were able to donate over 7,000 lbs of fresh produce!  Your donations helped to provide hunger relief to Greater Louisville and Southern Indiana as well as support the operations of Louisville Public Media!

Dare to Care Food Bank

Dare to Care Food Bank was founded in 1971, when a stunned Louisville community was confronted with the horrifying news that right in their own city, on Thanksgiving Day, a nine year old boy had died of starvation. The name Dare to Care became the rallying cry of people throughout the area as they joined together to attack the very real problem of hunger in many of their neighborhoods.  Today, Dare to Care has expanded to a 55,000 square food facility and procured and distributed 14 million pounds of food last year, including 4 million pounds of fresh produce. This wonderful organization operates four programs targeting the most vulnerable in our community: Backpack Buddy, Kids Cafe, Mobile Pantry and Patrol Against Hunger.

Green B.E.A.N. Delivery is ecstatic to partner with Dare to Care!  To help support the food bank’s mission Green B.E.A.N has comitted to make a one-ton fresh-produce donation at the end of April 2011.  In addition, during the Louisville Public Media fund drive, we will be matching every donation with a 2 lb fresh produce donation to Dare to Care!  Don’t forget, our members are able to become directly involved in this effort by donating to Louisville Public Media or participating in our Constant Canned Food Drive.

The Constant Canned Food Drive – Green B.E.A.N. Delivery’s constant canned food drive helps our communities’ food banks with the issue of distribution.  Simply leave any non-perishable food item in your empty green bin, and when we stop by with your next order, Green B.E.A.N. Delivery will take your donation to the Dare to Care Food Bank for you.  No donation is too small!

Fresh Produce Donations – Green B.E.A.N. Delivery believes that food banks should be supplied with farm fresh fruits and vegetables.  During its first three years of business, Green B.E.A.N. Delivery donated over 100,000 pounds of fresh produce to local food banks!

Slow Food Bluegrass

Slow Food is an idea, a way of living and a way of eating. It is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment. Slow Food advocates good, clean and fair food for all.

Good:
The word good can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. For Slow Food, the idea of good means enjoying delicious food created with care from healthy plants and animals. The pleasures of good food can also help to build community and celebrate culture and regional diversity.

Clean:
When we talk about clean food, we are talking about nutritious food that is as good for the planet as it is for our bodies. It is grown and harvested with methods that have a positive impact on our local ecosystems and promotes biodiversity.

Fair:
We believe that food is a universal right. Food that is fair should be accessible to all, regardless of income, and produced by people who are treated with dignity and justly compensated for their labor.

Slow Food Bluegrass is an all volunteer local chapter of Slow Food International. They seek to carry out Slow Food’s mission of good, clean, and fair food for all, here in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky. Slow Food Bluegrass supports the activities and education of like-minded individuals, businesses, and organizations.  Food is a part of our daily lives and is central to our culture and celebrations.  They encourage the community to get involved with Slow Food by bringing good, clean, and fair foods to their tables.
